The Hitch invites you to their establishment. Come relax at the bar with a refreshment and can get there not only by public transit but also by bicycle.
“I enjoy creating new cocktails; coming up with the names is the fun part,” says Douglas Tiller, owner of Hitch Limited in Leslieville.
“We serve the classics and my takes on the classics,” Douglas explains of the bar’s cocktail menu. To this end, you’ll find cocktails with names like “New Fangled” and “Templarios Folly.” Douglas says the taste of the cocktail inspires the name and there’s a story behind each one, which he is happy to explain. “They’re based on all kinds of things that have caught my interest,” he notes. “I have one called Hucknall Vault, which is a reference to where Lord Byron is buried. It’s made of dark rum, ginger liqueur, lime, bitters and ginger ale to reflect the darkness of a tomb.”
The focus on words and tales comes with the territory here, as Hitch Limited is named after the edgy literary figure, Christopher Hitchens. “He openly enjoyed a cocktail or two, so our name is apt,” grins Douglas.
Douglas knows his cocktails inside out, having worked in the bar and coffee trade for years. Though, you can also expect to find a selection of craft beers and wines, light food with a South American twist and a friendly, relaxed ambience that draws a crowd of all ages at the bar.
At this little Leslieville local, False Economy Hour (in honour of the late literary icon Christopher Hitchens) is all about vinyl records, cult films on the projector, picnic-like tables on the patio and $5 beers on tap. Local craft beers picks including Duggan’s No. 9 IPA and Left Field Saison dominate the options and you can steal a serious deal on them weekdays from 5 to 7 pm.
Cute, cozy and minimalist, this little cocktail bar in Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood makes a mean bourbon sour and specializes in double-shot drinks – a nice way to shake off the first-date nerves! Not only does the bar host trivia nights and craft beer tastings, but if you go on an empty stomach, there's also a small menu of bites and appetizers to snack on.
Don’t let the moose or rabbit head hanging on the wall throw you off – Hitch is a cozy, intimate place to chill out. Open seven days a week from 5 pm to 2 am, Hitch is a serious cocktail bar (Tip: Every mixed drink contains a double shot, so one might be all you need). Hitch also has a small snack menu with an assortment of affordable eats. With low music and intimate lighting, it’s the perfect place for a date.
