This place is friendly, fun and proves time and again to only serve beverages and meals that are of the highest quality.
Fat Duck is an interesting place, being a "gastro pub" which means that it serves upscaled pub grub items. The Fat sweet potato fries are awesome, but don't expect them to be super deep fried and crispy like your normal set of fries, they are more like something baked, but have a sweet slightly crispy outer shell. The duck lager is alright, the price is right (is the cheapest pint) brewed by Wellington's Brewery. The fish and chips are different with the chef's house tarter sauce, it has a much different taste than the usual packaged variety one might be used to, it reminds me of a home made version that you might make yourself at home. The elk burger is very tasty, I like that the elk meat is from an Ontario farm, and his beef burgers are bought from a local meat producer; the mango chutney on the elk burger was sweet and savory. The unique chai tea creme brule was awesome, it was so delicious, with its Indian inspired flavour, a successful change for my favorite desert. The price of entrees are about comparable to any other dining location, even from a franchise. Although there is a limited menu, its much better than stretching it with too many different items. The atmosphere in the dining area is dimly lit, giving it a good romantic feel, and the patio has nice view of preservation park. The service was a little slow the first time eating here, but subsequent times have been acceptable. Overall its a great place to have a upscaled dinner, or a pint with a friend.
Can't say more about the food. From the appitizers through the main course to the desert it was impressive and half the price of other places. The staff Leanna and George were attentive without being pushy. Entertainment was really good as were the other customers. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Have gone many times since always great food and sewrvice
We felt that it was trying hard to be fancy. The fish and chips were not traditional. The fries were very large, the batter on the fish tasted strange, and the tartar sauce was homemade, but lacked tang like I'm used it. Neither myself nor my wife really enjoyed the food. To us it felt like they were trying to be too fancy and different, and forgot that food isn't just about looks, but also taste. Perhaps we were just looking for something more traditional.
the weather was nice and sat on the patio. the waitress was friendly and brought us extra bread fairly quickly after we asked for seconds (although it wasn't busy because it was 2:45pm). The pie was great...totally stuffed with chicken, so I kinda wished they had put more carrots and potatoes in there. The pastry part was delicious too. The "fat fries" were different but great! It was basically one potato cut into four fat strips. I went I'll definitely be going back.
