August is here but the summer is by no means winding down — if anything, it’s getting hotter! This month has all kinds of street festival, food events, major concerts, fairs, theatre shows and more that’ll make you feel like summer will never end! [Photo credit: courtesy of Taste of the Danforth]

Must-see August events in Toronto

Hans Zimmer
It’s a must-see concert for movie fans! Grammy and Oscar winning composer Hans Zimmer is taking to the Air Canada Centre stage to perform the hit scores from films like Gladiator, Inception, The Dark Knight and Pirates of the Caribbean. Some of the music will be performed with an orchestra and others will be re-imagined as rock and pop tracks.

Summerworks
Summerworks is an eclectic performing arts fest with dance, theatre, music and spoken word shows. There’s all kinds of multidisciplinary performances to check out, no matter what kind of art you’re into! This year, the festival includes a Pay-What-You-Can option, so not only is there a lot of choice in what to see, but you can pick your price too!

Veld Festival
Veld is a good option if you want to spend your weekend outside listening to EDM and hip-hop with a couple thousand of your closest friends. This year’s lineup includes Future, Tiesto, Major Lazer, Migos and Tory Lane.

Toronto Food Truck Festival
Woodbine Park is where you’ll find all of Toronto’s favourite food trucks in one place. BeaverTails, Fidel Gastro’s, Buster’s Sea Cove, FeasTO and more will be serving up delicious eats while live bands and DJs play a little music in the park. Perfect chance for a picnic!

Rogers Cup
The Rogers Cup is played in Toronto and Montreal, with the men’s and women’s events alternating in each city. This year, we’ve got the women including Wimbledon Garbiñe Muguruza, Angelique Kerber, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova, Eugenie Bouchard and more.

Toronto Caribbean Carnival
It’s Caribana all weekend! The Grand Parade takes place on Saturday with all the colourful costumes and danceable tunes you could imagine, but there are plenty of other events to check out, like the Kings and Queens parade, a night market and more.

OVO Fest
Drake’s music fest is back! This year, the lineup includes Drake (obviously) Roy Woods, Majid Jordan, dvsn and Partynextdoor, but we all know OVO Fest is about the special guests. Everyone from Rihanna to Kanye to Diddy has graced the stage as a surprise performer, and there’s sure to be just as much excitement this year.

Kultura
Kultura Filipino Arts Festival is a massive celebration for the city’s Filipino community, with live music, art and food. There’s musical acts on stage, dancers, a chef’s competition, a book launch and more, plus tons of tasty cuisine to try.

Waterfront Night Market
The Waterfront Night Market is inspired by street food events from across Asia, but brings all those tasty and creative eats to Toronto. The popular food event usually has Chinese, Filipino, Thai and South Asian cuisine and is packed with eager foodies looking to try it all.

Taste of the Danforth
Taste of the Danforth is one of the biggest and most popular food tests in the city for one reason and one reason only: it’s delicious! All along the Danforth, local restaurants will be offering mouthwatering Greek dishes and sweet treats. There’s also a stage with performances, games for kids and all kinds of fun.

Roundhouse Craft Beer Fest
Roundhouse is one of the most popular summer beer fests in the city! The event brings different Ontario breweries together in one place, and you can sample some of the best. Steamwhistle, Great Lakes, Amsterdam Brewery, Collingwood, Lost Craft, Bobcaygeon and more will all be on site, plus some of the city’s most popular food trucks.

Sail-In Cinema
Sail-In Cinema is one of the most unique movie-watching experiences you can get in Toronto! A giant double-sided screen floats on Lake Ontario, and you can either bring a blanket and watch on the beach, or sail up in your boat and watch on the water! The movies are voted on by the public, and the winning films will be announced closer to the date. Each screening starts around 8:45 pm, but you can start setting sail at 6 pm.

CNE
The CNE is the unofficial end to the summer in Toronto. Once it ends on Labour Day weekend, summer is officially over. Fortunately for us, we’ve still got some time before that happens! When the CNE arrives with midway games, rides and insane deep-fried eats, the start of fall will be the last thing on your mind.

Fan Expo Canada
Time to get your geek on! Fan Expo is back this summer, giving fans a chance to check out comics and collectibles, meet their favourite actors and artists, engage in some cosplay and hang out with their fellow nerds. This year’s special celebrity guests include Tim Curry and the cast of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Nathan Fillion, Matt Smith, the kids from Stranger Things and more.
