Edmonton breakfast spots to jump-start your day

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day - so you should eat like kings and queens each morning. Whether you are looking for something hearty after a night on the town, or an excuse to not have to cook in the morning, these places will give you the jump-start you need to face the day.

Hap's Hungry House

1
16060 Stony Plain Rd NW, Edmonton, AB T5P 3Z9

Breakfast doesn't have to be complicated. Sometimes you want wholesome cuisine; other times, you crave greasy and hearty. The menu at Hap's is simple but extensive with super reasonable prices. For the indecisive, or those with big appetites, their Hunger Busters offer a huge platter of food that give you a bit of everything.

Leva

2
11053 86th Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 0X1

There are maybe a half dozen offerings on the breakfast menu at Leva, but they do it all so well. The smoked salmon platter is delicious and the best bang for your buck, in my opinion. They also have a large selection of pastries and pizza for all your carb-y desires.

Under The High Wheel

3
8135 102 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 4A4

Here, you’ll find local ingredients, delicious coffee and the most citrusy orange juice I've ever had. The savoury waffle - think eggs Benedict but on a waffle instead of an English muffin - is delicious, as is the sweet waffle that is covered in fresh fruit and Chantilly vanilla cream. I like waffles, what can I say?

B S Diner

4
10037 82 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T6E 1Z2

There are a lot of restaurants on Whyte Avenue, but there is something charming about B's Diner that keeps drawing me back in. The service is always friendly and it's never overly busy, so you avoid having to wait for a table most of the time. Try the tofu scramble, the stuffed French toast or one of their famous ramen burgers.

Cafe Bicyclette

5
4-8627 91 St NW, Edmonton, AB T6C 3N1

Nestled in the French Quarter, this is one of Edmonton's hidden gems. A bright open space with lots of natural light and a cozy patio, the petit dejuener here is one of the finest in the city. The Pain Dore au Chocolat is a bread pudding-like dish made of buttery croissants, and is to die for. For the extra indulgent bruncher, add one of their poutines as a side.

Rockin Robyns Ltd

6
16604 109 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5P 1C2

A cozy '50s style diner, complete with jukeboxes at every table, this restaurant serves up comfort food with a side of nostalgia. Homemade pies sit tantalizingly in the display case, and make a delicious cap to any meal. The corned beef hash is made with real corned beef (none of that canned stuff) and is a hearty meal that will satisfy even the biggest of appetites.

Commodore Restaurant

7
10712 Jasper Ave NW, Edmonton, AB T5J 2A7

It’s unassuming in decor but offers an eclectic menu. I come here when I want good conversation and a satisfying meal. On the one hand, you have comforting and standard breakfast options, and then a surprising addition of Asian items (fried rice and egg foo yung, to name a few). With reasonable prices, friendly service and a laissez-faire atmosphere, it's like going home to mom's for breakfast.

Daravara

8
10713 124th Street NW, Edmonton, AB T5M 0H2

Bacon is one of those universal foods that brings people together, and the house smoked bacon at Daravara is one of the best in the city. Paired with the cornmeal pancakes or on one of the biscuit sandwiches, it makes for a delicious start to any day. Bonus: If you go in the summer, they will have the windows fully open for you to watch the world go by as you enjoy breakfast.
