Today is National Double Cheeseburger Day and Thursday's National Cheeseburger Day, so showcasing the city’s five best cheeseburgers this week, just seemed a natural fit. I hope you’re wearing elastic-waisted pants…
P&L is brought to you by the same folks of Parts & Labour. This little slip of a place has become iconic in a short amount of time, due to the legions of fans from the restaurant, the rock/tattoo vibe and the patties themselves, charred on the outside that delivers a delicious crunch.
The Patrician Grill, one of the few original diners left in the city, serves up a simple, yet deeply satisfying Homemade Cheeseburger ($5.95). Owner Terry Papas, whose parents started the place back in 1967, says that his uncle - a cook - decided he was too busy to make burgers from scratch one day, using instead a few premade ones. Mayhem broke out, and well, they've been handmade ever since.
So naturally, you’ve gotta try the one from Barberian’s itself. The 14 oz. Steakburger ($25.25) is only offered for lunch and you’d have to ask to add cheese, but if you purchase a bottle of wine at least $100 or greater, it will cost you just 99 cents (plus the addition of the cheese).
