Whether you’re an ex-pat feeling homesick, looking for a gift for a British pal or simply a fan of British chocolates and “sweeties,” you’ll find something you like in this roundup of Edmonton and area stores that carry imported goods from the U.K. [Image credit: iStock.com/arinahabich]
Carol’s has been a mainstay in Edmonton for more than 30 years. If you have a sweet tooth, this store’s brightly coloured canisters of candy and sugary aroma will draw you right in. The British candy here is as tasty as they are fun to say: Curlywurlies, flying saucers, Pontefract cakes and all flavours of bon bons.
If you’ve ever wanted to send someone a bouquet of candy instead of flowers, this is the place. Candy Bouquet also carries a large variety of imported British goods from chocolate bars and candies to harder-to-find pantry items such as Mowbrays pies, Battenberg cakes, walnut whips and mushy canned peas.
Scottish Imports claims to be “your source for anything Scottish.” Where else can you buy or rent a kilt and purchase your own broad swords for Highland dancing? They also carry a selection of edible goods, such as orange marmalade, haggis, meat pies, black pudding and, of course, sweets.
Shop here for a selection of excellent sausage and savoury pies prepared in European and Canadian styles. Beef meat pie, white and black pudding, Lorne (Scottish) sausage, back rasher (cured back bacon) and, of course, haggis can be found here for a taste of home.
