In 2014, Espace Mushagalusa,an art gallery specializing in African and contemporary art, opened its doors on Ontario Street near Berri. It may come to a surprise to find a gallery at a location far from the city’s art scene, but the neighbourhood seems to fit well with the business’ mission.
Owner Guy Mushagalusa Chigoho has always been involved in the world of art. Coming from a family of art merchants and collectors, he worked for 5 years for the Creative Space of Loto-Québec before it closed its doors in 2013. Already the owner of a small gallery dedicated to the African arts on Sherbrooke Street, Guy decided to embark on a bigger project and new chapter. “I found myself at a crossroads,” he confesses. “I had just passed the 45-year mark and I thought, ‘Maybe it’s time to start a new life.’”
