Vintage Home Boutique co-owners Keith and Maureen Lobo always had an eye for design, but a hunt for an ideal couch left them stunned by a gap in the marketplace.
The couple believed that big box retailers were selling outsourced, poorly designed products containing toxic flame-retardants, while most high-quality furniture alternatives came with an unreasonably hefty price tag. Combing Keith’s retail savvy with Maureen’s talent for eco-friendly furniture refinishing, the couple responded by launching Vintage Home Boutique in late 2014.
In addition to selling vintage décor, Maureen works on-site at the St. Clair West showroom to revitalize old furniture without using traditional caustic products containing volatile organic compounds, whose vaporous chemicals have been linked to cancer. Instead, she employs soy-based, biodegradable products safe enough that she can work without wearing a mask. While her methods require a greater time commitment, the result is a family-friendly and environmentally conscious damage-free finishing.
